Thank you, Chicago, you were a fabulous host! The 2017 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference was an especially fun show for Demco Software. We loved talking to so many librarians and customers about how you are using our products and how we can improve our software to better serve your needs. Demco Software also let everyone in on a little secret: our newest product is finally here and will revolutionize the way people discover your library!

‘Alexa, ask my library when is the next storytime?’
NEW! Demco® DiscoverLocal makes your events and collections more discoverable online, giving your library top ranking in local search engine results. While library information and services are generally available online through a library’s website, a person would likely only search there if they already suspected that the library provided the answer to their inquiry. Now, Demco® DiscoverLocal gives your library greater visibility in local searches on Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc., inviting those searching for and unaware of your library’s capabilities to attend an event, check out an eBook, or reserve a meeting room.
Voice Service
Those who visited our booth also tested how Amazon’s Alexa Voice Service works with Demco® DiscoverLocal in order to do things such as find out when the next story time takes place, register to attend an event, find out the library hours, and more! We had a lot of fun and many librarians realized how valuable Demco® DiscoverLocal and Alexa could be in the lives of their customers.

3 Cheers for Brain Health
Adult brain fitness was another hot topic at ALA. There were multiple sessions focused on programming for older adults and Demco Software hosted a few mini sessions of our own on the topic. We partnered with library consultant and 32-year library veteran Catherine Hakala-Ausperk, to lead a session with our own Kim Blazek about how library professionals can address the concerns of aging populations and provide them with the support that they need.
In-Booth Brain Health Session
We specifically discussed BrainHQ™, a series of online brain fitness exercises available exclusively to public libraries from Demco Software, and strategies that will help libraries strengthen their community partnerships as well as reach a broader group of adults who will benefit from using the BrainHQ product.
We enjoyed chatting with librarians about the amazing and inspiring initiatives going on in their libraries and look forward to working with so many of you as well! We send a huge thanks to everyone who visited us at the show and to the rest of you we hope to see you soon!
